Colin F. Jones: Billy the Man
1998: Billy Willbond with the nomadic peoples located between Garrissa and the Bura village near the Tana River thorn scrub desert south of Ethiopia and west of Somalia. These nomadic peoples had their goat herds wiped out by El Niño, and the people of Canada through CIDA were working to make them self sufficient once again. Water-wells were opened and goats were replaced in the area.
BILLY THE MAN
(Because the other Billy I knew and loved was a Horse)

There is this grey bearded man, thinks he’s Santa Clause,
Has nothing else to do but enforce his cause…
Takes all your presents like some Robin Hood,
Gives ‘em away to poor folk as all of us should…
Not ordinary folk all healthy and bright,
But black folk with AIDS and water born blight.
He wrangles and barters “Because I want it you see.”
And through a lot of persuasion he gets things for free.
He’s just an old veteran; a Canadian I’m told,
But don’t hold that against him, he’s as valuable as Gold.
The reason for that being that he lives out a dream,
That to most other folk might appear a bit extreme,
Because his mission is to cure all Africa of ill,
And with some help from his brothers he bloody well will.
